Corron Farm Preservation Society Announces Collaboration with the Elgin History Museum with “Dairies to Prairies” project Corron Farm Preservation Society Co-Founder and Board Chair Emeritus, Thomas Corron, announced this week that Historic Corron Farm will collaborate with the Elgin History Museum and Grindstone Productions on their Dairies to Prairies Project. Mr. Corron says, “Historic Corron Farm was founded in 1835 by my Great-Grandfather, Robert Corron. He started with a few cows and four generations milked cows for a little over 165 years until 2002. We shipped milk to many different dairies and creameries in the Elgin Area – and in the early days to East Plato, Gray Willow, Plato Center, and Springbrook. At one time, we sold the milk to a man in the area named John Whitney who made cheese and shipped it to Chicago. During 1893 the milk was shipped from the East Plato factory to the World’s Fair in Chicago.” Corron Farm Preservation Society plans to share its rich history of Corron Farm, documents, and photos with The Elgin History Museum and Grindstone Productions. Broad trends in agriculture for over 165 years can be seen in the historic agricultural structures at Corron Farm. The history and development of Corron Farm captures the early exploration and settlement of the Midwest and the evolution of agriculture in Kane County and Northeast Illinois. The farmstead retains a high degree of architectural integrity and historical significance making it (thinks Thomas Corron) eligible for listing to the National Register of Historic Places. Dairies to Prairies tells the story of the Elgin area’s dairy heritage. The project will also explore how these former dairy farms have come under pressure from suburban development, modern day agriculture and efforts to restore natural prairies. This story will be presented through a feature-length documentary film and companion traveling exhibit. This documentary film and traveling exhibit is being created by The Elgin History Museum and Grindstone Productions.
