6pm Heritage Plaque Awards at Elgin History Museum

December 3 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The Elgin Heritage Commission will be awarding ten heritage plaques along with a short presentation on Solar Panels on Historic Structures presented by Elgin’s Historic Preservation Planner, Christen Sundquist.

The purpose of the Elgin Heritage Commission Building Plaque Program is to identify and promote awareness and appreciation of buildings in Elgin that have historical and/or architectural value. The program is indicative of the pride Elgin has in its past and its desire to preserve the history for future generations. The program was initiated in 1985 in celebration of Elgin’s 150th anniversary.

To be considered for a plaque, building owners are encouraged to research their home or building and fill out the application. After the owner has completed the research, submitted the application and paid the fee, the Elgin Heritage Commission will review the application. If the application meets all architectural, historical and maintenance criteria, the property owner will be awarded a plaque that displays the year the structure was built along with the original owner’s name.
