August 19 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm CDT

When the first Miss Elgin pageant debuted in 1925 its groundbreaking bathing suit competition was labeled “demoralizing” and “debasing” by some. Despite the criticism, the contest drew more than 5,000 attendees. Join Elgin historian Jerry Turnquist as he shares photos of the contest and re-tells the story of the event, including the winner’s ultimate advancement to the Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City.
This event will be held at the Elgin History Museum and live-streamed on Zoom. Registration information to come.
