September 2 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm CDT

In this presentation Ira Marcus will discuss the history of photography and how it has been used to preserve, present, and influence history. He will review how image making technology has evolved and been deployed to capture history over nearly 200 years. He will discuss how the Elgin History Museum has been using photography to tell Elgin’s story and to bring its collection to more people. He will share what inspired him to create the Museum’s temporary exhibit, “Art in Artifacts – Where History Meets Art”. He will close with a short hands-on tutorial on why and how to photograph your own precious “artifacts.”
