Owned and operated by the City of Elgin, Bluff City Cemetery is a nonsectarian cemetery that has provided the final resting place for area residents since 1889. Bluff City Cemetery’s 108-acres of well maintained grounds, bordering fen and butterfly garden provide a beautiful and peaceful setting for visitors to remember loved ones.
Each year, the Elgin Patriotic Memorial Association, in partnership with the City of Elgin, organizes Elgin’s Memorial Day service at Bluff City Cemetery. Dedicated volunteers line the entrance with the moving “Avenue of Flags,” creating a powerful tribute to those who served.
The Elgin History Museum also hosts its annual Cemetery Walk at Bluff City Cemetery. Nearly 600 visitors attend each year, guided by volunteer actors who bring Elgin’s past to life by portraying notable figures from the city’s history.
