From east or west, take I-90 to Elgin and exit at Route 25. Head south for about a mile, then turn right on Park St. Please be aware that the museum shares a parking lot with Elgin Academy, a private school on site. During the school year the parking lot can be an active place with many parents picking up students starting around the 2pm hour. There is designated parking on the far west side of the lot specifically for museum visitors. Please plan your visit accordingly.

New safety and social distancing protocols

The Elgin History Museum will reopen to the public on June 17, 2020. The Museum has taken many precautions so visitors, staff, and volunteers can enjoy a safe experience.

  • Face coverings will be required to be worn at all times while inside the Museum. (If you do not have a face covering, we will have some available for purchase for a small fee.)
  • Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the Museum.
  • The gift shop / admission area has been updated with a plastic shield to conduct transactions.
  • Museum staff and volunteers have been trained in new strict sanitizing procedures.
  • Social distancing will be required, and the docents will be there to help guide the flow of people in the Museum.

The Museum will continue to be open regular hours.

Admission

Adult admission is $3.00, students $1.00, no charge for Elgin History Museum members or kids 5 and under.

Accessibility
The museum is wheelchair accessible with an elevator and wheelchair accessible door on the north side of the building. The north side entrance enables a visitor in a wheelchair to access the museum on the first floor. Ringing the doorbell will alert staff/volunteers that assistance is required.
